"Ice-creams were produced"
Ice cream frequently appears in visitors' accounts of meals with Thomas Jefferson. One visitor commented: "Among other things, ice-creams were produced in the form of balls of the frozen material inclosed in covers of warm pastry, exhibiting a curious contrast, as if the ice had just been taken from the oven."
Jefferson was able to enjoy ice cream throughout the year because ice was "harvested" from the Rivanna River in winter and taken to the Monticello ice house, which held sixty-two wagon-loads. The ice house located in Monticello's north dependency wing was used throughout the year primarily to preserve meat and butter, but also to chill wine and to make ice cream. In 1815, Jefferson noted, the ice supply lasted until October 15.
While George Washington's papers contain a prior reference to an ice cream maker, the first American recipe for the dish is in Jefferson's hand:

2010-03-24 Campaign to Recall U.S. Senators
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/115684
Take a look at this post and start doing your own research on the idea of recall. These times are becoming truly desperate for many Americans and politicians at the federal and state levels, in both parties mind you, are doing there own thing and paying no attention to their oath of office, or to which country they were born into and still reside. I am not re-posting this as the "truth". It is a starting point of discussion.
I would suggest that we may need a couple of Liberty minded attorneys to also weigh in on this, except that they be a politician, or ever want to be a politician. However, much more critical, is that the American citizen inject themselves into this fight for our God given rights and the Constitution which bear those rights out in words partially.
Many of our representatives have been corrupted and need to be moved out of office. Let us be diligent about this and work to preserve that which has been held for us to this point, Freedom. We cannot sit idly by and watch thieves plunder our liberty and property.
2010-03-21 FOURTH AMENDMENT DEAD?
Thursday, February 25, 2010, 12:27:29 PM | FIJA
Amendment IV The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
“Last week, admonishing his colleagues, who had just turned away an important search-and-seizure case, Chief Judge Alex Kozinski, of the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, effectively pronounced the Fourth Amendment dead. After the court signed off on police search of an apartment without a warrant, probable cause or reasonable suspicion, Kozinski said, “Whatever may have been left of the Fourth Amendment … is now gone.”

2010-03-18 SHOULD WE JUST KEEP DOING THE SAME THING?

U.S. Politicians Better Not Upset China
In a move that demonstrates just how clueless politicians in Washington are about the U.S. economy, a group of U.S. senators introduced legislation this week in an attempt to make the Obama administration take action against China over its currency policy. The so-called "currency manipulation bill" being proposed would seek penalties against countries that fail to address misaligned currencies. Concurrently, 130 congressmen from both sides have signed a letter asking Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to take action on the issue.
These politicians are criticizing China for keeping their currency at artificially depressed levels, which they say gives China an unfair advantage in the global trade market and is causing the U.S. to have huge trade deficits. They fail to realize it is China's artificially low yuan and their willingness to accept the inflation that we export to them, which allows the U.S. to import cheap goods and Americans to live beyond their means. We should be kissing China's feet and thanking them for allowing us to consume the goods they produce in return for a worthless piece of paper that we print. Instead, we are blaming them for the problems that our politicians created.
Nobody in Washington understands just how fragile the U.S. dollar is. It's absurd for Congress to say they are going to penalize China, when China has the power to make the U.S. dollar collapse overnight using words alone. Although a collapse in the U.S. dollar would cause China to lose close to $1 trillion, their resilient manufacturing-based economy would quickly recover. On the other hand, without China, U.S. citizens would be forced to consume the goods we produce in this country.
The last thing the U.S. should do is upset its largest creditor. Think about all of the products in your home that were made in China. Imagine if all of these goods suddenly disappeared and you had to replace them with goods that were made in the U.S. Years ago we had U.S. companies like RCA and Zenith that produced televisions. RCA went bankrupt and Zenith was acquired by a Korean company LG Electronics. Today, there are no American television manufacturers left.
Up until the 1850s, Americans made all of their clothing at home on their own. With the invention of the sewing machine in the 1850s, the production of clothing became industrialized. By the end of the 1860s, Americans bought nearly all of their clothes from clothing manufacturers. By 1900, clothing trade became the largest industry in New York, with more than triple the output of its second largest industry, sugar refining. In 1910, 70% of U.S. women's clothing and 40% of U.S. men's clothing was produced in New York.
Today, the textile industry in New York is nearly nonexistent. 34.5% of the clothing purchased in the U.S. is imported from China. With the federal minimum-wage laws that are currently in place, it is impossible for an American company to profitably produce affordable clothing in this country.
The reason for our huge trade deficit is the lack of a real manufacturing base in the U.S. It is impossible for the U.S. to rebuild its manufacturing base without savings and it is impossible for Americans to save with the Federal Reserve artificially suppressing interest rates at 0%-0.25% and the government running record budget deficits. China inevitably will allow the yuan to strengthen and the U.S. trade deficit will shrink. However, a decrease in the trade deficit won't come from rising U.S. exports. The trade deficit will decline because we will no longer be able to afford imported goods from China.
It was just announced this week that China reduced their U.S. treasury holdings for a third straight month in January by $5.8 billion to a six-month low of $889 billion. NIA expects China to remain a net seller of U.S. treasuries, especially now that Washington is antagonizing them. It won't be long before the Federal Reserve is the only buyer of U.S. treasuries.
It's no coincidence that the Canadian dollar just reached a new 52-week high, less than two weeks after the Canadian government announced a plan to balance its budget by 2016. The U.S. will never achieve a balanced budget ever again and by 2016, it's possible that half of U.S. tax receipts will be needed to pay the interest on our national debt. We pray that all NIA members are accumulating gold and silver.

2010-03-15 IRAN
March 15, 2010
At least it sure looks like it according to this news release. It seems that the United States has shipped 387 “Blu” bombs to a U.S. military base on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. These “Blu” bombs are used specifically for destroying hardened and underground structures (like, uh, alleged underground nuclear bomb facilities in Iran?).
“They are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran,” said Dan Plesch, director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of London, co-author of a recent study on US preparations for an attack on Iran. “US bombers are ready today to destroy 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours,” he added. The preparations were being made by the US military, but it would be up to President Obama to make the final decision. He may decide that it would be better for the US to act instead of Israel, Plesch argued. [emphasis mine]
This should certainly “endear” us even more to the Muslims in the Middle East. Oops, I keep forgetting: Middle Eastern Muslims don’t hate us because of our interference in their political affairs, they hate us because we are rich. (By the way, since Iran does not have the capability to bomb the United States, when exactly did the United States’ Department of Defense become the Department of Israeli Defense?)
2010-03-14 CONGRATULATIONS SCOTT NEWMAN!
Scott Newman of Hutchinson won the Republican endorsement on Saturday with enthusiastic support from the SD 18 delegates and alternates. Although the morning agenda stretched well into the afternoon, I believe the time spent and the outcome to be good for McLeod, Meeker and Wright. Newman has very clearly stated his principles and his determination to turn Minnesota back to constitutional government and to cut state spending. These are welcome aims as many of his constituents are suffering from past government actions.
Newman will be our freedom fighter at St Paul. You can count on him to follow through on what he has run on thus far. Congratulations to Mr Newman on his solid campaign and endorsement!

2010-03-12 SD 18 ENDORSING CONVENTION
Today delegates and alternates from McLeod, Meeker, and the western portion of Wright County will select a new candidate to run for the soon to be vacant state senate seat now held by Steve Dille.
Minnesota is in dire straits and needs positive leadership to help manuever us back on course. Government is not the answer, however, it has been and still is the problem. It is time to give back to Minnesotans what is rightfully theirs. It is time for the people to have more opportunity to grow businesses without so much government intervention.
It is time to send a strong voice to St Paul.
VOTE for Dean Mahlstedt on March 13th!
2010-03-11 DFL VIEW OF MINNESOTA
As conventions continue across Minnesota, the DFL Party has been very excited about the support we have seen from constituents across the state. We need to continue to spread the word and show our strength as we elect a DFL governor this fall. You can help!
Currently, our Facebook page has 2,625 fans, while the GOP has 1,694 fans. Let's show the Republicans that we have twice the support, twice the energy, and twice the votes! Let's come together to double the Republican fans! All you have to do is invite five friends today and, if we work together, we'll have them doubled in no time! Send your five invites today and keep checking our fan page to track our progress.
This sounds more like a game than a care and concern for our current situation. It is not about the parties, or their individual candidates. It is about voting principled people into positions of leadership who also have vision and can accomplish a mission. Vote for Mahlstedt.
2010-03-09 Sec. 2. [43A.3175] MINNESOTA FARMERS INSURANCE POOL.
In the following text you can see yet another example of how several issues are lumped into one bill. This bill deals with setting up a new Government sponsored/mandated pool of health insurance for farmers. Also in the same bill is proposed changes to existing Environmental Impact Studies as they relate to ag in MN. Look up the full text. Is this a solution for our current economic situation in Minnesota? My answer simply, No.

2010-03-05 Nuclear Ban
Hours before a key Senate hearing, Senator Amy Koch, GOP-Buffalo, and fellow Republican Senators call for the lifting of the state's moratorium on nuclear power expansion.
Hours later, an amendment from Senator John Doll is tagged to Senator Koch's bill to lift the ban. The amendement apparently contained more pages than the bill itself. It seems that Sen Doll had not seen the completed amendment himself as he introduced it. I have invited Senators John Doll and Scott Dibble to Hutchinson to explain their energy solutions to all of us in light of the opening, this week, of NuCrane located next to Hutchinson Manufacturing. NuCrane is a manufacturer of cranes for the nuclear power generating industry and has invested serious capital in Hutchinson, providing some stability in the current economy.
Koch moved to table the bill, after the amendment passed. No further discussion. The bill was indeed tabled.
What do you believe we should do about nuclear? Weigh in on our Facebook page with your comments.
2010-03-05 THOMAS JEFFERSON
Historyless, sometimes hopeless, and perhaps heartless too, when it comes to caring for our future generations. Imagine the heart and soul that went into the birthing of this great country. From the mid 1700's to 1800 our founders and their fathers set up a system of government of the people, by the people and for the people. All of them with certain inalienable rights. We must engage ourselves in St Paul again, dare I say "DAILY". We must watch the politician and the law that he crafts, for he has gone astray from our original charter. Let's get back on course and let freedom ring! Put your hearts in it again! Join with me.
I leave you with this:
"If the American people ever allow the banks to control issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers occupied." Thomas Jefferson
2010-03-02 James Madison on States Rights
"Each State, in ratifying the Constitution, is considered as a sovereign body, independent of all others, and only to be bound by its own voluntary act. In this relation, then, the new Constitution will, if established, be a FEDERAL, and not a NATIONAL constitution." James Madison (Federalist No. 39, 1788)
It Is important that Republicans often, and with no blurry lines, distinguish themselves as such, REPUBLICAN. Too often I hear Republicans speaking of Democracy and lifting it up as our model, and then following that philosophy, rather than adhering to the principles as set forth in our Constitution and supported by our state Republican platform. Democracy is, simply put, a form of Socialism. Our founders made a clear distinction for us in the many letters and finally the documents they willed to us. Let us now be good stewards of that inheritance!

2010-02-25 Open Letter to Republican Delegates and Alternates
To All Conservatives Residing in McLeod, Meeker and Wright Counties:
My name is Dean Mahlstedt. I grew up in Stockholm Township on a farm and currently live just outside the City of Cokato with my wife and seven children in Cokato Township, where I have served as a Township Supervisor for seven years and am currently the chairman. My involvement in the Republican Party includes numerous delegate positions and I also attended the 2008 Republican National Convention as an alternate. My wife and I own ProCare Services, Inc, a cleaning and disaster restoration company that is 27 years old. I understand many of the challenges that we are facing and why we are facing them. Life will be better for all of us if we purpose to put Minnesota within the Constitutional boundaries that were created to limit the growth of government.
State government has been growing agressively from 1960 until 2009. The General Fund Biennium in 1969 was 1,403,508,xxx and in 2009 had grown to 33,866,405,xxx (that is Billions). Has your family budget grown at the same rate?
Jobs. We continue to regulate, place mandates, and increase taxes on businesses that are the backbone of our economy and our personal incomes. Our state continues to lose wealth as more Minnesota businesses move to neighboring states and over seas. We can change this.
Healthcare costs have been rising since the government injected itself as the solution many decades ago. We need to allow the people of Minnesota to choose from a larger pool of providers and we need to take the influence of the politicians out of our health care decisions.
Please join me and help put Minnesota back on track. The size of government needs to be reduced, not just frozen. Let’s bring prosperity and freedom back to the place it belongs, the people. Join me on March 13th and endorse an old way to do government, follow the Constitution. By endorsing me to run in the November general election, you are casting a solid vote for reduced government, more jobs as a result of less regulation, mandates and taxes, liberty to choose the type of healthcare that works for you and your family, and finally prosperity for the people, not the politicians. I am available by phone, facebook, email and in person to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for being involved at the most important level of government!
Sincerely,
Dean Mahlstedt Candidate for State Senate – SD 18 (320) 894-8550
